....Been there, done that, several times in the old days... Take the 
southern route, it's probably pretty hard to get through some of the 
mountain ranges during winter :) PS... Enjoy the nighttime sky in 
areas like New Mexico and Arizona.. You will never see such stars in 
your life again!
