This is a note of encouragement. I'm a 175 pound guy in a 195 pound body, and I use only a 10 lb sledge. Feel good about that 8 pounder! Once you get your wind, you'll love it (be sure to breath while you're hammering). It'll sort of happen all at once - at least it did for me: one day you'll just feel like the master of that hammer. After your workout you'll feel lean and tight (even if, like me, you aren't. Yet). Anyway, go slow, and use your imagination - imagination is, I think, a critical component of shovelglove.
